July 11-14 Summer Camp

Summer camp is July 11th to July 14th this 2013, at beautiful Camp Scout Haven. Our theme is Jungle Safari.

As a reminder to all parents who will be joining us on this 4 day trip, you AND your scout must have Youth Protection Training and a medical release forms signed by a doctor. All campers need to have these forms and training signed within the current scouting year. Forms are available online at GNFC. If your child has a yearly doctors visit coming up, this is a great time to have the doctor fill out the forms.

As a Pack, we will be conducting Youth Protection next month and the camp makes this training available, one evening during the outing. However attendance at camp does mean losing out on one valuable evening with your scout. Please plan to join us for the Pack training day in November.

As camp approaches, the Pack will be handing out hard copies of these important medical forms. The Pack will confirm that you have this information about a week or two before camp. The Pack does not retain any medical information on your scout, we merely facilitate handing in the forms.

We suggest you make pair of copies: The original for the camp, one for your records and one to stick in your backpack just in case you forget the originals. The camp has VERY, VERY limited ability to call your doctor for lost or forgotten forms. (Email and fax is nearly impossible.)

In spring the council hosts a yearly swim test for adults. When this day is announced, we will post the date here.  All campers require this test for safety, however adults (only) are granted this special evening to test in a swimming pool. Tests are conducted at camp for children and any adults who missed the spring date. The camp has wonderful water facilities for swimmers of all abilities and non-swimmers. Water safety and enjoyment is taken very seriously at camp.

Our pack is always on the look out for adults with BALOO training and liquid fuels training. GNFC is offering both course for $20 on Oct. 27th 2012 and again on Feb. 9th 2013. Early registration for the 2013 date will save you $5. It is never too EARLY sign up, however late sign ups and walk-ins are discouraged. Please see the GNFC Training Page for more details.

Nov. 6th - Youth Protection

On Nov. 6th, the pack will be doing Youth Protection as a group. Please be prepared to stay for the whole meeting so you can receive this important training with your scout.

This training is done at the pack level once a year, if you miss this meeting please see our Pack Leader for alternative training.

Oct. 23rd - Last day to hand in Popcorn sales sheets

Our Popcorn Coordinator will be collecting the sheets for pop corn sales at our Oct. 23 meeting. This is your last chance to turn in the pop corn orders.

Nov. 3rd - Pack Camping

We will be camping the week of Nov. 3rd. We will meet at the mausoleum Friday evening at 6 PM and we will make our way to camp as a group. The cost of this trip is $35.00 per scout and adult.

At this session of camp, please bring a snack to pass (pretzels, cookies, etc.) and an empty 2 litre pop bottle. We find the smooth sides bottles work better than the fancy, torpedo shaped Coke bottles. These bottles will be used for pop bottle water rockets.

Please see the "Camp Supplies" link on the lower right for camper supplies.

Dues due October 30th

Dues are due on October 30th. If you are unable to pay the full amount at this meeting, we suggest paying in three installments of $25.00, $20.00, and $20.00. The dues for scouts are $65.00 for the first scout and $55.00 for each addition scout.

Remember, if your scout brings a friend to join, you can save $10.00.

Oct. 23 Reminder - Candy for Halloween Party

Just a reminder, each scout should bring in a bag of candy for next weeks Halloween Party. The supplies will be used to create gift bags and other fun events at the party.
